Girls Empowerment Program

______________

The Girls Empowerment Program for unaccompanied minor girls and adult women creates a safe space for team outdoor activities with an emphasis on learning important life skills.

Through team activities, we empower girls and women by building self-confidence, developing teamwork and leadership skills, and promoting good health.

SWIMMING LESSONS

Swimming lessons are taught in the summer by a volunteer team of experienced swim instructors.

_________

All the girls and women we work with have crossed the sea in inadequate boats on the last leg of a journey that requires great bravery. Their first lesson in the sea is often challenging, but students feel supported by their instructors and each other, and they ultimately succeed.

The patience and compassion of our volunteers help young women build inner strength and self-confidence as they develop their swimming skills and feel pride in their achievements.

BIKE RIDING LESSONS

Bike lessons are taught in a safe and secure environment where students are able to experience
the thrill and freedom of riding bicycles.

_________

These sensations are felt even more by some of the participants who are from countries where it is against the law for girls and women to ride bicycles.

The Girls Empowerment Program was created and is led by REAL Board member Michele Cobble, our Financial Director.
